Shadow Primer - Do We Really Need It?

We have all heard of various kinds of primers- but today we will be focusing our attention specifically to eyeshadow primer. Do you really need it, or is it a marketing gimmick? Short answer- yes. Long answer- If you want your eyeshadow to be bright, true to color no matter what your skin tone, show up its true color, blend and apply evenly, last longer, not crease. slide, or flake, then absolutely you need it!

Everyone has a slightly different skin type- whether yours is oily, normal, combination, or dry- an eyeshadow primer formula neutralizes the “base” of the shadow for optimal application on clean, dry lids. If you have dry or flaky lids, like myself, a primer provides a creamy base for even application - almost like absorption of a dry, powdery product. On the other end, if you have oily lids, a primer acts as a sticky “glue” to help the powder stick to your lid without sliding around. The eyeshadow primer we use and sell is light in color, which may appear strange at first, but helps provide a blank slate for eyeshadow to pop, especially when eyelids tend to be darker than the rest of the skin due to hyper pigmentation from lack of sleep, close blood vessels, and natural skin variations.

Experiment time! On the back of your hand, put eyeshadow primer on the left half. The right side leave natural. Swipe on your favorite shades of eyeshadow, especially mattes. Can you tell that the shadow packs on more color on the left, and if you try to swipe it away, it sticks way better? Test it out for yourself!

There you have it!
