Your getting married and you are putting in a lot of time and you are putting in a lot of time and effort planning your wedding. Here are 10 Questions you need to ask a makeup artist prior to booking them, even for a trial.
1. Do you have a portfolio of your work I can look at?
Why this is important:: You want to be able to see someones skill level and the quality of their work. If someone does not have a portfolio to show you I would choose another makeup artist for your event.
2. Do you have a list of references I can call?
Why this is important: Asking this question lets you know if they have past clients who are willing to vouge for them. A bride who is willing to take a phone call and answer a few questions must really have to have loved her makeup artist.
3. What Quality Makeup Products do they use.
Why this is important: The quality of a makeup artists kit is important. If they have to do various skin tones will they have the products necessary to do the job. Drug store brands don't always give the same long lasting results as their higher end counterparts.
4. What are your fees
Why this is important: A makeup artist should be able to provie you with a rate sheet that lays out all of the fees you will encounter. Early morning call time, extra artists, touchups are all common fees and you should know up front what they are. It is also nice to know that the makeup artist has set prices and doesn't charge according to the venue or neighborhood she will be working in.
5. Is your makeup artist fully mobile.
Why this is important: Getting ready at your venue, hotel or home is a pampering luxury that allows you to relax and enjoy your wedding day morning, instead of traveling to make appointments. Find out if your artist is capable of working on location. Do they have their own lighting, chairs, etc.
6. Do they offer a makeup trial?
Why this is important: Having a makeup trial will put your mind to ease and allow you to relax the morning of your wedding knowing you are in good hands. Do not be afraid to communicate your likes and dislikes to your makeup artist. A Professional will not cop an attitude and will happily adjust anything you may not love. Give constructive feedback so the makeup artist can meet your desires.
7. Can they bring an assistant?
Why this is important: Depending on how big your wedding party is, you may need a makeup artist that works with an assistant. If you have an early morning wedding and lots of people to get done this is essential. Keep in mind you will have to pay for extra makeup artists, but it is worth the price!
8. Do they have a back-up equiptment?
Why this is important: Things happen and equiptment stops working. Does your makeup artist travel with extra equptment in case of an airbrush malfunction? Make sure they have extra airbursh guns and machines, this will ensure you get the look you want should something unexpected happen
9. Are they able to stay on time?
Why this is important: Makeup artists set the tone for the day, if they are running late, your photographer will become annoyed and you won't have as much time to take your pictures. Starting off your wedding day stressed and frazzled because your makeup and har people ran over is not what any Bride wants to deal with. Again, reviews and references are so important!
10. Do they have a back-up plan?
Why this is important: Emergencies can and do happen all the time, but does your makeup artist have a back-up plan in place if they’re unable to make it on your wedding day? This is an important question to ask!
