We all age and we all want to look younger. The biggest mistake women make is not updating their look as they go from decade to decade. Styles change, makeup changes and doing what you did in your 20's in your 40's can actually make you look older and dated.
When clients come to me for a makeup lesson I concentrate on age-defying makeup to keep them looking young and glowing. Here are my top 5 tips.
1). EXFOLIATE - Christie Brinkley (pictured above) will tell you this is her biggest secret. This is by far my #1 tip for women. Exfoliate at least 3 or 4 times per week, get rid of dead, dry skin and allow smoother, clearer skin to come through.
2) Lighten up on the foundation. Your skin will look younger and more youthful if you use less product. A good moisturizer followed by a lightweight, luminous foundation will give you a youthfull glow. If you need more coverage in certain areas try color correcting those area first - see my blog on color correction - and then apply your foundation - if you still require more coverage then just use it on those areas, not all over your face.
3) No nude lipstick. Fact - women look better in color.. A little but of a pop of color will brighten and wake up your face - of course it has to be the right color for you! A good tip if you want a color that will look the most natural on you (as opposed to a nude color) is matching your inner lip or your gum line.
4) Brows - as we age our brows thin - filling them in in a natural, soft
way will lift your face and take years off your appearance. Brows are often the most neglected part of a woman's face.
5) Contour your face properly. The right contour techniques can take years and pounds off of your appearance. Each face is different but a general good contour is right under the cheekbone and the jaw line. Contour should be a shadow NOT a brown line.
